Saint-Pierre-en-Auge in medieval times
If you’re interested in the Middle Ages, visiting Saint-Pierre-en-Auge is a must. The town can be proud of its rich medieval heritage: a gigantic abbey, a large medieval market hall, a tannery district, Carel Castle as well as 25 churches in its surrounding countryside (including the Church, one of the oldest in the Calvados department), will charm you with their authenticity and originality.
The Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives Market
Every Monday morning, the market hall comes to life and welcomes local producers bringing all the flavours of the Pays d’Auge and Normandy: ciders, cheeses, dairy products… The square bustles with shoppers filling their baskets. More than 200 stalls are just waiting to be discovered. Round off the morning by looking around the livestock market, a cattle or sheep auction (ask for dates beforehand).

A great opportunity to hear many a tale of life in the past! If you’re looking for more countryside adventures, why not visit Au in Hiéville? A vineyard in cider country!
A real vineyard in Normandy is a unique and special thing. And the wines produced at Les Arpents du Soleil are among the best in France! Rare and fine, the white and red wines will blow you away. The owner of the estate himself will share his passion for winemaking with you and invite you to a tasting in the cellar: wines to be appreciated fully but in moderation. At Les Arpents du Soleil, let yourself be immersed in the beauty and tranquillity of the estate. Respect for nature and terroir are Gérard Samson’s key priorities.
The Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives Antiques Fair
On the first Sunday of the month all year round, this is the meeting place for antique and second-hand dealers who come to sell their wares at the market hall. If you love a “hunt”, this is the place to be to find a rare treasure or antique in its original condition. Plus, admission is free!
The Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives Christmas Market
Held on the second weekend in December, this Christmas Market has been described by the press as “the most beautiful in Normandy”. The large market hall is decked in the most beautiful Christmas colours and the stallholders showcase a range of refined and quality gift ideas (eats, crafts, and more!). Entertainment is also provided throughout the weekend (concerts, workshops) with two particular highlights: the parade and the fireworks display on Saturday evening!
