FERVAQUES

In the footsteps of Eugène Boudin

Born in Honfleur, son of a sailor and an apprentice sailor himself in his youth, the pre-impressionist painter Eugène Boudin (1824-1898) was a great traveller. He sketched the Normandy beaches and rocks of Antibes, the Dutch ports and the Venetian Lagoon. As he made his way up the Touques valley, he worked on paintings of the churches of Touques and watercolours of the pastures of Pont-l’Évêque, but it was in Fervaques, with his friends Eugène and Stéphanie Jacquette, that he stayed most often between 1869 and 1897. Dr Eugene Jacquette (1828-1899) was an art collector from an old Fervaques family. In Fervaques, Eugène Boudin completed around twenty canvases as well as numerous drawings and watercolours. Follow in his footsteps on an eight-stop tour.
